Headline : Pre-Session: Indian benchmarks likely to start in negative today

Indian benchmarks are expected to start the day on a negative note on Thursday. Investors will look at corporate earnings, global cues, oil price movement, and the rupee's trajectory for market direction today. As many as six companies will declare their results for the September quarter today which include names like IndusInd Bank, TCS, Avantel Ltd, etc. among others.

Trends on SGX Nifty also indicate a negative opening for the broader index in India.

On the global front, Wall Street rose on Wednesday but pared gains on reports that Washington and Beijing were making no progress in deputy-level talks. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.7 per cent, the S&P 500 gained 0.91 per cent, and the Nasdaq Composite added 1.02 per cent. Asian stocks tumbled in early trade on Thursday. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan eased 0.31 per cent while Japan’s Nikkei slip 0.11 per cent.

Back home, on Wednesday, the 30-share benchmark ended at 38177.95 up by 645.97 points or by 1.72 % and then NSE Nifty was at 11313.3 up by 186.9 points or by 1.68 %.

Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 3087.48 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 829.56 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 3455.22 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 472.07 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -367.74 Crore and Rs. 357.49
